FINANCIAL PLANNING STANDARDS BOARD HIRES MICHAEL SNOWDON, CFP, AS DIRECTOR OF CERTIFICATION

DENVER, CO – 18 January 2012 – Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. (FPSB), owner of the CFP, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER and CFP logo trademarks outside the United States, has named Michael Snowdon, CFP, as its director of certification. A former practicing financial planner and financial planning educator, Snowdon has more than 25 years of experience in the financial planning profession, and is the author of nationally acclaimed financial education and training materials. At FPSB, Snowdon will oversee the organization’s international certifications and related programs, support the FPSB Standards Committee, and develop training and education programs and resources for FPSB member organizations.

“Michael Snowdon brings the perspectives of a seasoned practitioner and an educator to FPSB’s certification and standards area,” said FPSB CEO Noel Maye. “As FPSB and FPSB member organizations support the emergence of financial planning as a profession around the world, Michael will play a key role in developing standards, programs and resources that will serve as a foundation for those efforts.”

Formerly, Snowdon owned WealthRidge, a Greenwood Village, Colorado-based investment advisory firm formed in 2008 to provide wealth management and financial planning services to small businesses and middle and upper-middle income individuals. He also served as a professor at the Colorado-based College for Financial Planning, where he developed financial planning process, behavioral finance and foundations in financial planning courses. Snowdon holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER designation, the Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor designation, and is licensed as a Registered Investment Advisor and a Colorado State Insurance agent.

“At a time when market uncertainty is foremost in the minds of financial planners and their clients, I’m looking forward to sharing my experience to help the financial planning profession gain recognition as a unique and essential service that helps individuals achieve their life and financial goals,” said Snowdon. “I look forward to the opportunities and challenges of working with FPSB at a global level to support financial planner professionalism.”

Snowdon received a Master’s degree in Psychology and Administration from Cincinnati Christian University and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Ozark Christian College.
